HOUSTON, Tex. -- The Fund for Animals announced today that FREE SPAY AND NEUTER OPERATIONS FOR DOGS AND CATS will be made available to the first 500 animal guardians who call The Fund for Animals Spay & Neuter Clinic at (713) 863-0010 as a special holiday gift to the community. The Fund for Animals Spay & Neuter Clinic is located at 1603 Shepherd Drive in Houston. Appointments for spay or neuter surgery are required and free surgeries are limited to two per family.

Nearly 100,000 homeless dogs and cats ended up in Houston animal shelters this year, and most of these animals were destroyed. Spaying or neutering dogs and cats prevents homeless puppies and kittens from being born.

The Fund for Animals Spay & Neuter Clinic, which operates Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, provides reduced cost spaying and neutering for dogs and cats in an effort to combat the horrible crisis of overpopulation in Houston.

A gift of $250,000 from Houston Rockets owners, Leslie and Nanci Alexander, in September allowed The Fund for Animals to expand the services of the spay and neuter clinic to include Sunday operations and provided continuing support for the Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) "clinic on wheels" which provides free services to dogs and cats in financially challenged families. Special projects to directly benefit animals in Houston, such as the 500 free spays and neuters, have also been made possible by the Alexanders' gift.
